From the Artist: Note from the Artist: Picasso once said that it took him four years to paint like Raphael but a lifetime to learn to paint like a child. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, especially after spending nearly a month on one very realistic and detailed painting. I wanted to explore this visually, and so I tried to create a painting that captured the creative journey from wild and expressive childlike doodles to figurative realism and back again. Oh, and I painted everything beneath the tear with my left hand in an attempt to capture what it might look like if 6 year old me was given a pencil (also I just really wanted to try painting with my left hand). Anyhow, this was a really fun experiment and I definitely encourage you all to let your mind wander and draw stuff that doesn’t look like anything in particular – left or right handed…
