When I was a kid, cereal was a rare treat, and when I was lucky enough to have a bowl, I’d carefully strategize each bite so that there’d be just enough of the tastiest bits for that last spoonful of sugary milk. When I think about breakfast cereals these days, it’s often a reminder of where I’ve come from, but also a reminder that’s it’s ok to stay young and enjoy the sweet things. The indulgences in my life are a lot like the crunchy, sweet, chocolaty, or peanut buttery pieces from those brightly colored boxes. I try to make sure that I don’t take them for granted, but I’m also careful to spend more time enjoying them than I spend trying to make them last. I guess at the end of the day – or whichever part of the day you choose – cereal sweetens the milk in our bowls and our milk makes our cereal float.
During each release, my wife and I are going to enjoy a bowl or two of whichever cereal I’m paying homage to and we invite you to enjoy one as well. While I’m sure I’ll still strategize my plan of attack, rest assured that I’ll be thinking about how much fun I’m having with every bite.
