Mayday Underground

The next Mayday Underground will return to the Village Gate just it time for the holidays! The show is Saturday and Sunday November 7-8 at the Village Gate Atrium (274 Goodman St N).  We’ll have 60+ vendors, free stuff, great food, and lots of fun!  Plus, if you’re one of the first 25 shoppers each morning, you’ll receive a free swag bag filled with handmade awesomeness from our vendors! Admission is free as always, and ample parking is available on site.

The Mayday! Underground Crafts + Art aims to bring the people of Rochester a unique shopping experience. Inspired by the handmade movement sweeping the nation, this event seeks to bring local artists and craftspeople together to benefit the community. Here, you can purchase awesome handmade items ranging from housewares to jewelry that were made by independent businesses rather than big-box stores. You’ll find unique, funky, and fresh designs that are all one-of -a-kind.  Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

This will be our third year participating in this festival- this show has tons of very talented artists from all over New York.  Interesting, fun show!

About the Show:

Fifty-nine years after the first Clothesline, Rochester’s largest and longest-running fine art and crafts festival continues to evolve.

It’s now the place to experience all-day live entertainment, sample food from some of Rochester’s favorite vendors, enjoy free family art activities, visit the museum, and of course, browse and buy original artwork throughout the grounds.

Each year sees the addition of more festivals, but Clothesline remains a favorite with visitors and artists alike. In recent years, it has earned five “Best of Rochester” awards from City Newspaper readers.

In 2014, more than 400 artists from across New York State were on hand at Clothesline.

This will be our first year participating in the Ithaca Festival, and we're super excited.  Ithaca has a ton of culture and is one of our favorite places to visit, so we're sure it's bound to be a good time!

The Ithaca Festival is the largest annual event in Ithaca, New York, attracting an audience of over 30,000 people over the course of one weekend. One of America’s best homegrown arts festivals, the event takes place on Thursday through Sunday this year in the downtown area of Ithaca.The Thursday is the parade and Friday-Sunday is the full festival.

In case you haven't been there yet, Nox is a nerd pub with fantastic craft cocktails and beer (and awesome food, too; bacon-wrapped meatloaf- need we say more?).  Show opens 5:30 p.m. Thursday, and the latest paintings will be making an appearance.  Can't make it then?- No worries, the art will still be up for a bit.

I've been invited to take part in Lancaster Arts in the Village, and I couldn't say no!  We met the woman who organizes this event in Lewiston, and people were so welcoming there, that if Lancaster is any bit like it, it'll be a nice day.  I'm told that the show normally receives 5,000+ visitors from all over WNY, and has art, great food, and live entertainment.

Concurrent with San Diego Comic Con 2014, the art gallery Michael J. Wolf Fine Arts presents POP! The Art of the Geek, a group exhibition guest curated by contemporary artist Nathan Sawaya (www.brickartist.com). POP! The Art of the Geek features various contemporary artists aiming to explore the narrative of identity within the pop-culture spectrum while decoding the origins of comic book influence. Ten percent of all sales are to be donated to the Art Revolution Foundation (www.ArtRevolution.org).
